A seal's been rescued after apparently being bitten by a dog on Cleethorpes Beach.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue were called this morning - after the seal was found at the top of the slipway.

The seal was later released after it was given medical attention. Dog owners who may have been near the Fuller bridge this morning are being asked to to check their dog for any sign of injuries.

In a statement, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said: "We were contacted early this morning regarding a seal at Cleethorpes Beach who had come to the top of the slipway. This normally wouldn’t be cause for concern, however, it was also reported with injuries and wasn’t in a safe location due to the growing public presence.

"Tasked by British Divers Marine Life Rescue, we assisted their volunteer with the tricky task of getting it bagged safely and attending to its wounds.

"There is one wound that looks like it may have been from a dog bite so we ask all owners who have been near the fuller bridge this morning, to check their dog for any sign of injuries. The owner may be unaware that the seal was there while walking their dog.

"The seal has since been released after medical attention."
