An organised walk is being held in Grimsby on Friday night (25th November) as part of a national movement to "reclaim these streets".

The 2-mile walk is being organsied by the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategic Group and hopes to empower those who may feel vulnerable when walking home.

It's being supported by the Community Safety Team at North East Lincolnshire Council - who are encouraging people to go along and take part.

Reclaim These Streets was set up last year, to highlight women's safety issues in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard.

The circular walk, which starts and ends at Grimsby's Town Hall, will start at 6.30 pm tomorrow evening, and covers around 2 miles of pavements around the town centre.

Cllr Ron Shepherd, who is a portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities says "The murder of Sarah Everard was an absolute tragedy. Nobody should be unsafe when out walking, and we’re supporting this event to encourage more people to have the confidence to feel safer on our streets."

The short walk will be an opportunity to really show solidarity with women and girls everywhere, that we will not stand for violence in our communities.

The evening will finish at Grimsby Town Hall with a hot drink. Attendees are reminded to wear warm clothes, sensible shoes, and are welcome to bring torches and banners.

The walk starts at 6:30pm on Friday 25 November 2022.
