Boozers in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are still taking a hit despite welcoming crowds of punters to watch the football.

For every £3 spent in the pub £1 goes to the taxman says The Long Live The Local who’s now calling on Government to invest in pubs and breweries.

Dawn Nielsen, campaigner, CAMRA in North East Lincolnshire, said:

“A lot of the breweries if they want to expand from the small microbreweries to go up to the next step and yet they literally get battered by taxes. Some of the bigger bars especially when the matches are on you will see them a little bit packed out but the bars don't seem to be getting the business they once had.

“It riles me, in CAMRA we actually have people who look at how much the rates are abroad and how much they are and transfer it across. We can empower a community to takeover a pub that the brewery might feel it's failing because they're not hitting targets.

“On a hot day, its normally heaving, now it doesn't seem to be like that. We seem to be getting the holiday makers coming through but it does seem to have a little bit of a knock-on effect the bars the bars don't seem to be getting the business that they once had.

“People are still a bit wary if going out, especially under the confusion of is it a mask, is it this, is it that? We've got a couple of pubs that due to COVID, they literally have no staff.”
