It was supposed to be a fun day out at the seaside, but now a family are facing an unimaginable loss following the death of a 15 year old girl after she got into difficulty in the water at Cleethorpes .

She went missing along with a boy on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services launched a search operation and eventually they were both found and recovered from the sea.

Sadly paramedics weren't able to save the girls life though.

At the request of her family she hasn't been named.

It's tragic - heartbreaking

The boy meanwhile was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

Investigations into the exact circumstances are continuing.

Parents at Cleethorpes gave their reaction yesterday:

One said: "Absolutely terrible, it shouldn't happen to anyone in this day and age, just being a local myself and having children around a similar age - you don't want to hear it."

Another said: "It's just tragic, it's horrible, I can't imagine what the mum and the family are going through."

A third said: "It's just heartbreaking really heartbreaking just such a young life lost - it's painful. "

We need to make children aware of the dangers

Others commented: "Tragic - you just have to make them aware of the dangers."

"Really do feel sorry for the parents and family and friends and the whole community as it must have been really shocking for everyone."

"It makes you a bit more cautious with your own children going onto the beach and how they walk out."

"It's awful."

Meanwhile Detective Inspector Nathan Reuben said; “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family at this incredibly difficult time.

We ask that they are given the time and space to process this tragic news.

"We're trying to fully understand the circumstances of the tragic accident.”

The family is being supported by specially trained officers.

“The boy who was also recovered from the water was taken to the hospital to receive medical care. He has since been discharged.”

“We are working together with all the relevant agencies including Humberside Fire and Rescue services and the Coastguard to fully understand the circumstances of the tragic accident.”
