No plans for a big screen to broadcast the Queen's funeral across Northern Lincolnshire
There will be a candle-lit vigil on Sunday in Scunthorpe
Neither North Lincolnshire nor North East Lincolnshire Councils have plans to publicly screen the Queen’s funeral.
The funeral service of Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday, September 19, at Westminster Abbey from 11am. The day has been declared a national bank holiday.
Hull City Council will screen the event on a 20-metre screen installed on the balcony of Hull City Hall in Queen Victoria Square. The screen will show live coverage from the BBC and a limited number of seats will be available.
North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire Councils have confirmed they have no such similar plans. The local authorities have been marking the Queen’s death and the change of monarch in a number of other ways, however.
Council meetings have been called off until Tuesday, September 20, while proclamations were issued for King Charles III on Sunday afternoon. Mayor of North East Lincolnshire Cllr Steve Beasant performed the ceremony to welcome the new monarch in Grimsby and Cleethorpes and North Lincolnshire Mayor Cllr John Briggs made the proclamation in Scunthorpe.
Floral tributes have been left in honour of the Queen around a tree she planted in Central Park, Scunthorpe, more than 60 years ago. North Lincolnshire Council has highlighted a communal gathering taking place in Central Park by the fountain to mark the National Moment of Reflection on Sunday at 8pm.
Organised by North Lincs Churches Together group, a candle-lit vigil will be held with people asked to attend at 7.45pm in time to observe a minute’s silence at 8pm, followed by prayers and the national anthem.
Books of Condolences at all community hubs and libraries in North Lincolnshire will be available until Tuesday, September 20, while the national e-Book of condolence will remain available during the bank holiday.
Grimsby Minster’s outside area, outside St Peter’s Church, Cleethorpes, and in front of the Civic Centre in Immingham are the focal points for floral tributes to the Queen in North East Lincolnshire. Books of Condolence will remain open this week at Grimsby and Cleethorpes Town Halls and Immingham Civic Centre.
As for anyone seeking a big screen experience to watch the spectacle of the Queen’s funeral, Vue Cinemas are showing the funeral for free in selected cinemas including their venue in Scunthorpe. No drinks or snacks will be available, except for complimentary bottled water.
