People of all abilities across North East Lincolnshire including some who have been bed bound, are being introduced to new machinery that’s helping them to get moving again.

The Grimsby health and wellbeing hub opened it’s doors today to help customers manage symptoms of illnesses and long COVID.

The new facility at Grimsby Leisure centre is funded by sports England, North East Lincs council and Lincs inspire. It's helping people to get moving with new machinery

An 11 year old boy from Grimsby is now learning how to walk again after losing the feeling in his legs after contracting COVID-19.

Victoria Parish is Jacobs mum - she says they were very exited to be invited along:

"The equipment for starters is absolutely amazing. Jacob's lost the use of his legs since March this year from coming into contact with Covid. This equipment here is working all of his body in such a way he doesn't realise he's working those parts. He's gaining strength and we've noticed a difference in just three weeks which is brilliant really"

Michelle Durrent lost all feeling in her legs and couldn’t walk in June:

"If I wasn't sat on this machine this is an exercise I wouldn't actually be able to do myself. When I've got the strength to do it I can push against the machine. But if I'm having a bad day and my muscles don't want to work the machine does it for me"

Sue Wells is the Chief exec at Lincs Inspire – she says it’s something unique for the borough:

"We've got the gym, we've got bowls, we've got our wellness hub. But if you're a little less active we've also got our creative hub. So you can come and participate in a sing along a craft workshop, a puzzle and games club. You can just enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat"

The hubs are helping Lincs Inspire’s customers manage symptoms of injury, illness, and recovery from long Covid, along with improving their overall health and wellbeing, using physical and creative activities.

The event's highlighting the difference these wellbeing hubs are making to the local community, and Lincs Inspire’s plans for extending these benefits to support overall workforce wellbeing.
