Most visiting at Grimsby Hospital has been suspended.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust says it's to help them respond to coronavirus and protect staff, visitors and patients.

There are some exceptions - visiting to maternity and children's wards will continue - as well as for those receiving end of life care, patients who are vulnerable due to admission-related anxiety, or patients with communication difficulties, learning disabilities or dementia.

Ellie Monkhouse, chief nurse and director of infection prevention and control, said: “We have temporarily paused visiting from today and over the weekend at our Grimsby hospital site only.

"This is due to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases at our hospital and to help limit further spread of the virus across our clinical areas. The decision has not been taken lightly but is essential in helping to maintain the safety of our patients, visitors and staff. We will be reviewing the situation on Monday.

“I understand for our patients and their named visitor this may cause upset; however, this decision has been made with our patient’s best interests at heart. This is one of many things we are doing to protect our patients and is a temporary measure.

“I would please ask for your help in respecting these changes. In some cases, such as where patients are critically ill or nearing the end of their life, we will of course do our very best to accommodate your visiting needs. If you have any questions about the guidance please speak to the relevant ward manager.

“It can be really hard having limited contact with a loved one in hospital. There are many ways you can keep in touch with those in hospital, including the patient bedside phones and with the help of our patient contact helpline on 03033 306666 or nlg-tr.twpatientcontacthelpline@nhs.net, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.”
