Man cleared of killing woman at Humberston Fitties

A jury at Sheffield Crown Court found Christopher Downes not guilty

A man's been cleared of killing a woman at Humberston Fitties in Grimsby.

53-year-old Christopher Downes of Hatfield , Doncaster was accused of the manslaughter of Kim Harrop back in 2018.

A jury at Sheffield Crown Court found him not guilty of manslaughter.

Kim was found dead at Christopher Downes' home on Humberston Fitties. A large amount of a powerful painkilling drug used to treat severe pain found in her blood.

Investigating officer Roger Fell from the Major Crime Team, who has been involved in the case from the outset said,

“Kim was a mother and much-loved daughter, her untimely death has caused untold distress to her family.

"The verdict of the jury in finding Downes not-guilty is one we accept. I hope, at least the trial has given Kim’s family some of the answers they have been searching for in the years since her death.”
