It's claimed major improvements have been made to North East Lincolnshire children's services department after it was rated "inadequate" last year.

An Ofsted report identified "serious weaknesses" in key areas last October.

Councillor for Children Services Margaret Cracknell told a cabinet meeting last week although they weren't out of the woods there were positive signs and feedback had been very encouraging.

She said that view was shared by a department of Education commissioner.

Cllr Cracknell said:

“We all make complaints and become quite vocal when a service gets things wrong, but actually a service has to be really good for people to actively submit compliments.

“This shows that we are getting things right and that as a result of that, families in our area are getting a better deal and more support.

“We know that we’re not out of the woods yet, that there is still more to be done and we are determined to continue with this work.”

One compliment was submitted by a judge who had witnessed how court and child protection officers had managed a ‘difficult and complex’ case.

Another compliment thanked a ‘kind, caring, funny, non-judgemental’ officer for supporting their family.
