Healing Village Hall will become an exclusive cash and carry for members of a church.

The shop will only be open to members of Plymouth Bretheren Christian Church.

The plans were approved this week, although one councillor remarked it was “a lot of effort just for a few people to have a wholesale for their own use”.

The application was submitted by Christopher Glass of Barnoldby-le-Beck, a member of the PBCC.

The building is owned by the Parish Council who are trying to sell it to fund the construction of a larger hall on a new site.

The planning application states:

“The PBCC was established in the early nineteenth century in Plymouth and is a community of over 50,000 members. It is a deeply family-oriented organisation being a community of families held together by their common Christian belief.

“The applicant seeks to provide a shop to members of the PBCC. This will operate on similar lines to a cash and carry warehouse.

“The site will not be open to the general public instead providing a service only to members of the PBCC.

“All members will be provided with a membership card which will be required to be produced at the point of sale.”

Concerns had been raised about whether a proposed gate on the facility would cause congestion on the Great Coates Road while it was opened and closed.

The applicants took the feedback on board and adapted the plan to include a remote-controlled electric gate which could be operated quickly.

North East Lincolnshire Council planning committee felt the scheme was much improved, and passed it unanimously.

The hall was the subject of another planning application in February last year which would have seen it turned into a shop with a sandwich bar.
