A man who threatened shopkeepers in Grimsby with a meat cleaver has been jailed for nine years.

34-year-old Joe Page of St Michaels Road in Grimsby admitted robbery and possession of a bladed article.

Back in October he entered a store on Laceby Road brandishing a meat cleaver but ran off when a shop worker tackled and disarmed him.

A similar incident happened in the same area two days before.

Page appeared at Grimsby Crown Court on Friday 24th May where he was sentenced.

Detective Sergeant Andy Taylor, leading the investigation said:

“Page is a dangerous offender who threatened innocent members of the public.

“I would like to commend the member of staff for the bravery they showed in disarming Page.

“Violent crime and robbery will not be tolerated, and we will always do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our communities feel safe and criminals are punished.”
