Grimsby dad's support group aims to address issues like isolation
The online group has attracted over 200 dads
It's a subject not often talked about, but now a new group in Grimsby is being set up aimed at fathers many of whom have issues like isolation, loneliness and in some cases even mental health issues.
The Dads and Diapers Walk and Support Group already has over 200 members- it's to help dads make friends.
It's an online group.
If your friends don't have children as well it's hard to open up to them and speak about being a parent
Caidan Ali is the dad behind the it - he says he realised there was a need when he became a father for the first time eight months ago.
"I did find it quite isolating - even though me and my partner could support each other."
"You need to have someone else to relate to that isn't your partner - someone you don't see everyday."
"If your friends don't have children as well it's hard to open up to them and speak about being a parent."
"There wasn't really any dad groups around - I know there are some more catered around the children having a good time and making friends but there was really nothing to help dads make new friends and support each other."
I think it's really difficult for men to let down their walls
"That was the initial idea and then it's just kind of grown and expanded."
"It's a private Facebook group to allow other dads and father figures and step dads to have a place to open up and be vulnerable because men's mental health has always been a thing of controversy."
"There are a lot of mums groups out there - baby yoga and sensory classes that they can take their kids too - it's maybe easier for women to talk."
"I think it's really difficult for men to let down their walls and have a conversation with someone who can relate to it as well."
