Crime rates fall across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire
Humberside Police welcome latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics

Humberside Police has welcomed a fall in the number of crimes recorded across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.
97,000 offences were recorded in the year to June, a fall of 6000, according to latest figures released by the Officer for National Statistics.
The figures do show a rise in the number of incidents linked to the possession of weapons.
Deputy Chief Constable David Marshall said: “The figures released today continue to highlight the significant efforts our teams have made in disrupting serious and organised crime, particularly drugs related offences.
“Through initiatives such as Operation Shield and our Kinetic strategy (formerly Op Galaxy) we have been increasingly able to get onto the front foot and proactively pursue offenders and detect drugs offences, which is reflected in the 9.4% increase that we have seen in offences of this nature.
“These initiatives have also enabled us to disrupt criminality and put offenders before the courts, helping to protect our communities.
“The figures show a 2.1% decrease in the number of recorded sexual offences in our force area, compared to an increase nationally. This is an area of offending that we take incredibly seriously. This is reflected in our recent Tell Someone campaign which raised awareness of the importance of reporting offences, no matter when they happened.
‘’We’ve have seen large decreases in offences such as; public order offences, arson, criminal damage, vehicle offences, and violence offences across the Force area.
“Offences of this nature have a huge impact on victims, and society as they often occur in public spaces, as such they often leave people not affected to be concerned about safety. I am really pleased to report that our communities are seeing these crime types decrease.
“We have seen an increase in offences relating to the possession of weapons, and we continue our targeted approach to deterring people from carrying a weapon to prevent further incidents, and we have increased our stop search activity to target those suspected to be involved.
“Next week we will be launching our Knife Crime Campaign, sharing stories of those impacted by fatal stabbings in a bid to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying a knife and the number of lives that one attack can impact.
‘’A 6.9% increase of shoplifting has been recorded, however this has been the second smallest increase nationally. Humberside developed and implemented a retail crime action plan, which is based on the principles from the national action plan, this includes ‘days of action’ with partners to ensure visibility and focus in high harm locations and to take action against repeat suspects.
Summarising the report, Deputy Chief Constable Marshall said: “I am pleased that we are seeing reductions in offences over the last 12 months across Humberside that are larger than the national average. Whilst we continue to be proactive in protecting our communities, disrupting criminality and bringing people to justice, we will not be complacent, and we know these are the areas were our communities want us to focus upon.
“We would always encourage people to report offences to us, so that we can investigate and take offenders off our streets, and also have the most accurate picture of what it is like in our communities."
