The company behind the plans to build the UK’s largest salmon farm in Cleethorpes have been defending the proposals at a public consultation .

Aqua Cultured Seafoods will hear if they’ve got the green light in a few weeks’ time to build the £75m development on the edge of the Grimsby port estate.

People don't want to come in to Cleethorpes and see a fish farm

Locals attended a public consultation yesterday and raised concerns like possible noise, smells and welfare issues.

Chris is one local who spoke to us and told us about her worries regarding the project.

"People love that they can get off the train and go on the beach."

"Beautiful beach, beautiful area, lovely friendly town, friendly area."

"They don't want to come in and see a fish farm."

"We've got a lovely space for nature, lots of endangered species"

"Insects, deer etc - they're got to take that away but leave a derelict docks."

There is no smell - it's a sealed building

We spoke to Mike Berthet from the firm.

He said: There is no smell, this is a sealed building effectively."

"The air is filtered, it has to be filtered to keep the salmon safe."

"The fish are swimming in very very clean water, when we harvest any sediment will go into sealed containers."

"We have designed our plans to have just over 5 acres of wildlife land left, we're also investigating what we can do in terms of wildlife credentials."

"We'll be bringing new technology to Cleethorpes and we'll be looking to harness the great people of this area in new jobs."

"We're going to be needing around 75 to 100 people."
