The Central Promenade in Cleethorpes will re-open to cars tomorrow.

North East Lincolnshire Council brought in restrictions earlier this year - to limit traffic and encourage social distancing.

All restrictions on the North Prom are also being lifted - with parking spaces and parking charges resuming on both proms.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, Cabinet member for highways, said: “We have been receiving regular updates about the use of the space, the public health situation and feedback from traders and visitors.

“We have taken the decision to lift the general car ban ahead of the bank holiday weekend, but I must stress that we all have a responsibility to act sensibly.

“Covid has not gone away yet, and we all have to do our part to keep the numbers low in this area. We are asking businesses, particularly those in the hospitality sector, to continue to use the QR codes to make sure track and trace data is available and to manage queues that may build up successfully.

“With our public health colleagues, we will continue to monitor the new measures alongside the Covid rates in our area, and should we need to, the traffic barriers and restrictions will be reinstated for public safety.”

Stephen Pintus, Director of Public Health, said: “We all need to work together to try to keep people safe, particularly as we are expecting people to travel to the resort from other areas.

"We will be monitoring Covid levels locally and in surrounding areas to be able to respond to any rise in cases or any identification of the new variants in the locality.”
