Work continues to fix sinkhole on Rushmire Hill
A section of the road has been closed since Friday - the hole is around 3.5 metres deep and 5 metres wide
Gloucestershire County Council says that it's working with Wessex Water to fix a sinkhole on Rushmire Hill.
A section of the road has been closed since Friday - the hole is around 3.5 metres deep and 5 metres wide.
It's because of a fault with a drainage system - the authority says a full road closure is necessary until it's repaired.
The local authority said: "On Friday 13 June we closed a section of the B4058 Rushmire Hill for safety reasons due to a sinkhole appearing.
"An urgent investigation revealed a fault with a drainage system belonging to Wessex Water and they are now carrying out their own investigations.
"Beneath the surface of the road the hole is approximately 3.5m deep and 5m wide, so a full road closure is necessary until the drainage system is repaired and the road is made stable again.
"We appreciate the impact of the road closure on local residents and businesses and we are working with Wessex Water to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Updates will be provided on this page.
"Separate works are being carried out along Rushmire Hill to prevent landslips and prevent future road closures. These works are running on schedule and expected to be completed by 6 July. While we can not guarantee the sinkhole will be resolved by then, we are currently optimistic that the road can be fully opened by this date."
