Woman found guilty in "the worst case of animal cruelty" in Gloucester
She's been banned from keeping all animals for 15 years.
A woman found guilty of what the court described ‘as the worst case of animal cruelty’ they had seen has been banned from owning animals for 15 years in a prosecution brought by the RSPCA.
Amy Pamela Griffin Dawkins, of Rectory Road, Matson, Gloucester, was found guilty of an animal cruelty offence when she appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on August 18, 2025.
Milo - a three year-old Husky - was found tied to a wardrobe door by a string attached to the collar on his neck.
The RSPCA was alerted to the incident on December 2 last year after officers from Gloucester Police found Milo following a report with concerns for the welfare of a dog at the address.
He was rushed to a vet’s for emergency treatment where he was examined and was found to be very underweight, severely dehydrated and was covered in faeces and urine. He also was suffering from anaemia and a heart murmur - which a vet said the anaemia may have caused.
Milo spent some time in RSPCA care but sadly his condition worsened and the decision was made to put him to sleep to prevent further suffering.
As well as a ban on keeping all animals for 15 years, Dawkins was given a 12-month custodial sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with an 18-month mental health treatment order, 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days, and a six month alcohol treatment order.
In sentencing, the magistrates stated it was “one of the worst cases of animal cruelty they had seen”.
