The Western Gateway Partnership, which was a partnership between counties in the West Country and Wales is ending after the government cut its funding.

The partnership was created in an aim to boost economic growth in the region.

Funding will be cut from today and without Government funding the secretariat team in its current form will cease to function from 6 June 2025.

The partnership say that all 28 local authorities involved are committed to continuing cross border collaboration and work on tidal energy in the Severn Estuary.

The news has come with little surprise to members of the business community.

Ian Mean, who is on Gloucestershire County Council’s Economic Growth Board, told Greatest Hits Radio: “What worries me here is that they did provide a voice of business and now that is not there.

“The south west is a big operation I think they’re a powerhouse in itself but we seem to be forgotten by government a lot of the time and this is a good example.”
