Weather warnings are in place across Gloucestershire as the region is expected to be deluged in rain.

Currently, the Met Office has placed a red-level flood warning on the Alney Island area of Gloucester, with Sandhurst and Maisemore set to be particularly affected.

River levels are set to rise at the Sandhurst river gauge, with flooding likely when tides reach their peak at around 9:15pm tonight (November 13th).

As well as this, smaller areas of Coal Wharf and Riverside in Maisemore are set to be affected due to rising river levels, with the A417 at Maisemore likely to be closed due to the flood.

Tidal levels reached around 3.4 metres high following the heavy rain, but will start to subside tonight once the tide peaks in the evening.

It comes as a second flood alert was placed on Slad Brook in Stroud - with the Met Office urging residents living in the area to be prepared for potential flooding and disruption.

Farmland and roads is expected in the affected area, which spans from the village of Slad to Stroud town centre, where the river meets the Thames and Severn Canal.

The weather alerts come as the Met Office place most of the South West under a severe weather warning as Storm Debi is set to make landfall.

While Gloucestershire is not covered by the warning, residents in the area are being told to prepare for knock-on effects from the storm.

In its latest warning, the Met Office said: "A band of squally, thundery rain is likely to push quickly east across the warning area through Tuesday morning."

Storm Debi has already wreaked havoc in Ireland, leaving 100,000 homes without power as it makes its way across the Irish Sea to hit much of the South West including Cornwall, Devon and the Isles of Scilly.
