Two men arrested in connection with a serious assault in Cheltenham
Police responded to reports of a 27-year-old being found unconscious in the town
Two men have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a serious assault in Cheltenham last month.
The men, who are both from Cheltenham and aged 23 and 31, were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
Police had been called to Regent Street in the town at 1.15am on Sunday 24 April after it was reported that a man had been found unconscious outside 21 Club and had injuries to his head.
It is believed that the 27-year-old victim was punched whilst near to Aquavitae on Ormond Place. He remains in a critical condition at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
The arrests follow a number of appeals issued by police to identify witnesses and gather more information about what happened on the night.
Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the assault and anyone who has not already spoken to police is asked to get in touch.
The two men who were arrested in connection with the incident were later released on police bail while enquiries continue.
