Stroud Community frustrated with road closures
Butterrow Lane residents have had their road closed since the 4th of November.
A community in Stroud are calling on the council to speed up works on a wall that is causing road closures in the run up to Christmas.
People living on Butterrow Lane say they are fed up with the works that are blocking them from accessing their homes.
Residents say they are concerned for their neighbours who have mobility issues who are having to park on a steep hill away from their homes.
They have also had issues with deliveries to their houses where drivers cannot enter to deliver oil and presents ordered for Christmas.
The work causing an issue is on a collapsed wall that requires specialist work and has been ongoing since the 4th of November.
Geraldine Ward who lives on the lane told us it adds two miles onto her journey to drive home and avoid the works.
She said: “It’s just frustrating because it was closed 4 years ago for the adjoining bit of wall so it’s a shame it couldn’t have all been done at the same time, there just doesn’t seem to have been a sense of urgency to the work.”
Another resident who lives on the lane who didn’t want to be named is worried they might have to go through the same thing again.
He said: “There’s another piece of wall which is closer to Butterrow Hill that the council have now got round to surveying and they say it is ok in the medium term, the issue on that is, what does the medium term mean?”
A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to residents for any inconvenience these works have caused. The repairs will be completed on Friday 20 December, when Butterow Lane and Butterow Hill will reopen.”
“This particular wall has required a highly specialised repair and our engineers have made every effort to ensure the structure is repaired properly.”
“We have worked closely with residents when arranging the works to mitigate any possible disruption, and have done everything we can to ensure this essential repair is completed as quickly as possible. We would also like to remind motorists not to ignore road closure signs, as this puts yourself and others at risk.”
