Police find body in River Wye in search for missing man

Police searching for a missing 20-year-old man from Chepstow have found a body in the River Wye.

Officers have been looking for Jake Jones, who is 20 and from Sedbury, had gone missing last week.

The force went on to receive a report on Monday (May 20th) that they had spotted a man believed to be Jones had entered the water close to Tutshill.

As the report claimed that he had not resurfaced from the water, officers were quick to open a search and rescue operation to try and find Jones.

Gloucestershire Police spearheaded the operation, working with Gwent Police, the National Police Air Service, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the Severn Area Rescue Association, Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire and HM Coastguard to try and find him.

However, at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday (May 26th), a member of the public had found a body in the water close to the mouth of the river in south east Wales.

Officers confirmed that the body had been recovered from the water by the Coastguard as formal identification takes place.

Jake's family have been informed of the discovery, according to the force.
