A man who is set to host a charity football match at Redditch United today, says it's important to continue to break the stigma surrounding men and prostate cancer.

Bank manager Ben Homans from Tewkesbury says he was shocked to learn someone in the UK dies every 45 minutes from the cancer, when his grandad was diagnosed with the condition.

The 32-year-old wants to encourage people to make sure they are going to their doctor and getting checked.

"My grandad is still here today due to the help he received from Prostate Cancer UK and the incredible health service," he said.

"For me, I really wanted to make sure I could create a challenge which would raise awareness and try and break down the stigma people have about going to get checked.

"It's about telling people that if they do have aches and pains, not to just shrug them off, take them seriously, and go to your doctor if you have any worries."

More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year on average, according to charity Prostate Cancer UK.
