Princess Anne has arrived at Cheltenham Festival, with the famous Gold Cup race taking place at 3.30pm this afternoon.

The royals have a long history of attending Cheltenham, and various members of the family have attended over the years. Her Royal Highness herself lives in Gatcombe Park, Gloucestershire, and has a strong equestrian background.

She won a gold medal at the European Eventing Championship in 1971, and become the first royal to compete at the Olympic games, competing at the equestrian three day event in 1976.

Her Roy Highness also competed at the Badminton Horse Trials in 1974, coming fourth, and she even raced at a charity horse race at the Epsom Derby in 1985.

Today is the final day of Cheltenham, with thousands having visited over the last four days. At 3.30pm will be the famous Gold Cup race, with Princess Anne widely expected to present the trophy to the winner.

Whoever comes first will win a whopping £350,000 prize money.
