Wendy Buffrey who ran the Up Hatherley post office in Cheltenham is among 700 people accused of wrong doing.

The accusations were made based off a faulty software system called Horizon.

Wendy Buffrey was accused of stealing £24,000 from the post office. She had to sell her business and her home to pay back the money.

Following a court trial, Mrs Buffrey was convicted of false accounting and sentenced to 150 hours of community service.

Mrs Buffrey said: "I was very lucky not to have a custodial sentence.

"But I lost my job in the ambulance service as I had a criminal conviction.

"I felt that I'd let my family down."

The scandal has gained attention this week after ITV released a drama, Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, bringing the story into focus. Although it has been public knowledge for some time now.

Today (10/1), Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said the government will bring in a new law to exonerate and compensate victims of the Post Office scandal.

Mrs Buffrey believes it's vital this happens, she said: "I got my conviction quashed in 2021, it felt like it was all over but I'm still waiting for compensation."

"We've got so many people out there who've been made bankrupt because of this. It is important we get full and fair compensation."
