People in Cheltenham are being warned of phone scams targeting residents.

A number of reports have been made to police recently where fraudsters pretend to be their son asking for cash through texts. The scammer will say that he is using a new phone and number due having damaged his old one.

When asked if he is ok, the scammer will ask if the victim can pay an invoice for him. If they say yes, then he will then ask them to send money to a bank account.

Officers believe that this scam is aimed at higher and middle-class residents due to their likelihood to have disposable income readily available.

Anyone with concerns is urged to ignore the messages and contact police. You can do this by filling out the online form on their website or calling 101.
