The advice comes after the Neighbourhood Policing Team and police cadets took part in a recent vehicle safety operation in Rodborough.

Officers checked for any unlocked cars and found 20 vehicles had been left insecure.

As well as ensuring vehicle's are locked, police are also advising people not to leave valuable items or anything of sentimental value inside or on view.

Inspector Paul Cruise, said: "We're seeing vehicles are being targeted overnight. Often vehicles are being left insecure so offenders are trying car doors and stealing anything they can find.

"The offenders aren't causing damage to enter cars so if you lock your car you've got less chance of becoming a victim."
