Gloucestershire police are warning people not to drink or drug drive
New Years Eve is a time Gloucestershire Constabulary usually see a spike in offences.
Motorists are being warned to use find alternative transport tonight (31/12) as many people are expected to be out partying to welcome in the new year.
The force have said that drivers who combine drugs and alcohol are 23 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than sober drivers.
This year the police are making a huge effort to clamp down on the issue as they've seen a rise in fatal incidents.
Police and Crime Commissioner Chris Nelson, said: "This year we've had an increase in deaths and serious injuries so we need to do more to make sure people don't drink or take drugs at all when they're driving. "
PCC Chris Nelson said he is particularly worried about drug driving offences.
He said: "I think people are doing drugs more now than they used to."
"You probably won't realise drugs will stay in the system for days, so we can detect for many days after you've taken a drug that it is still in your system and you will get a ticket."
The PCC gave advice to party goers.
He said: "Really when you go out and celebrate if you're driving you shouldn't drink at all. Get a lift, walk, get a bus."
