Police clamping down on drink and drug driving
Gloucestershire Constabulary have been on patrol catching people drink and drug driving.
The force said this time of year there is normally an increase in driving offences as more people head out to Christmas parties.
Officers are working to educate motorists and members of the public about the dangers and consequences about getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol or taking drugs.
Today (13/12) on a patrol on Estcourt Road, officers emphasised the importance of using their police presence to warn drivers but also to keep people safe.
Sergeant Gareth Gladwin said: "We don't tolerate drink and drug driving.
"We hope to get the message across that although you may have had a drink the night before you could still be over the limit the next morning.
"It's obviously more highlighted this time of year as people have Christmas parties which may be in the week and they may have work the next day.
"Our message to people is just don't do it, don't drive, don't take that risk.
"Even after one pint you never know what risks your taking, it's too dangerous to do.
"It's not acceptable and the consequences are huge."
