New "state of the art" ward opens at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
The new facility is worth £4.5 million and will deliver care to the elderly
Patients at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital will be now benefitting from a brand new, state of the art 24-bed ward.
The facilities at Gallery Ward 2 at GRH cost around £4.5 million and is part of a wider £100m cash injection, which is delivering centres of excellence across Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals.
The new ward will deliver care for elderly patients, including those with dementia and who are acutely frail.
As well as being kitted out with new furniture, the beds have USB portals for electronic devices and the latest technology to monitor patients.
The ward boats four four-bedded bays, eight side rooms, dedicated en-suites, as well as a new lift, pantry for cooking and dedicated storage.
No new bed spaces have been created in the build, but the hospital have called the beds "a much higher standard".
Professor Mark Pietroni, who is a medical director and interim Chief Executive has called the ward a "vert exciting milestone".
This is a very exciting milestone for the team and the Trust more broadly as we provide the next generation of care in line with our vision for two centres of excellence.
He continues with: "We all have a loved one, or know of someone who’s elderly, and as more and more of us live longer, and with more complex long-term conditions, so this ward provides the very best facilities and specialist care to ensure that anyone staying here is as comfortable as possible while giving our patients the best opportunity to live as independently as possible.”
Other recent developments, as part of the improvement programme, has already radiology department, worth £6.5 million, reopen at Cheltenham General.
