A Gloucester takeaway manager was fined after inspectors discovered a mouse infestation and serious food hygiene breaches.

Lili Wang, manager of Good Wok on Bristol Road, was ordered to pay £2,120 at Cheltenham Magistrates Court. The company that owns the takeaway, Good Wok Mings Ltd, was also fined £14,918. Both fines included victim surcharges and costs.

Wang, 44, admitted seven food hygiene offences on behalf of herself and the business, including failing to manage pest control, inadequate cleanliness of the premises, poor food hygiene practices, and improper storage of food.

The prosecution followed an inspection by Environmental Health Officers from Gloucester City Council, who closed the premises in March 2022 after discovering several issues.

During their visit, officers reported finding a live mouse in a food container, food storage bags that had been gnawed, mice droppings near utensils, and traps containing dead mice.

The kitchen was described as dirty, and Wang, who lived above the restaurant, was not following basic hygiene practices.

Cllr Sebastian Field, cabinet member for Environment at Gloucester City Council, said: “This is one of the worst cases our inspectors have dealt with and showed a blatant disregard for the safety of customers.

"Mice can spread disease and viruses that in the worst-case scenario can kill people. We will always go out of our way to help business owners to operate safely but in this case Ms Wang was simply not dealing with the issue and serving customers in filthy conditions that were frankly dangerous.”
