Forest of Dean MP issues letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister
In a letter, Mark Harper says the PM is "no longer able to deliver" as a leader
The MP for the Forest of Dean has issued a letter to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee - saying he "no longer has confidence in Boris Johnson as Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party".
It comes after the PM received a fine for breaking lockdown rules - after attending a birthday party in June 2020.
His wife, Carrie Johnson and the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak were also fined.
In his letter, Mark Harper says our country needs a Prime Minister who "commands trust, obeys laws and exemplifies the very values that we are trying to defend".
"We live in a country where those in charge have to obey the same laws as everyone else".
"Many people across our country made enormous, sometimes heartbreaking, sacrifices to comply with Covid legislation."
"Those in leadership positions are supposed to hold themselves to higher standards and set an example".
"Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when no-one is looking".
Mr Johnson apologised yesterday in the Commons - he will be facing MPs again today (Wednesday) during PMQs.
Tomorrow (Thursday) MPs will vote on whether he should be investigated for allegedly misleading parliament on Covid rule breaking.
