Man who attempted to rape a woman in Cheltenham jailed for four years
A 22-year-old man has been jailed for four years for the sexual assault and attempted rape of a woman in Cheltenham.
Mohammed Sanana was sentenced at Cheltenham Crown Court on Friday 7 December, 2024.
He had been convicted of the offences by a jury on 11 November.
During the trial - the jury was told Sanana had spotted two women as they walked through Cheltenham city centre on a night out back in March.
He didn't know them and approached them under the guise of offering directions to a bar - he then sexually assaulted one of the women and attempted to rape her.
Laura Opie of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Sanana ruthlessly targeted two women who were on a night out. He approached them under the guise of offering assistance but, instead of helping them as he promised, he sexually assaulted and attempted to rape one of them.
“The police and the Crown Prosecution Service are working tirelessly to bring offenders like this to justice.
“This prosecution could not have happened without the evidence provided by the woman who Sanana assaulted. I would like to thank and commend her for her bravery in coming forward to support the case.
“We want every victim of sexual offences to have the confidence that they will be supported when they report a crime and that we are committed to securing justice for them.”
