A man's been arrested following a dog attack and a hostage situation in the Forest of Dean.

Police were called to an incident in Newent at around 3.20am today (Tuesday 22nd April).

A large dog had bitten a man in the street, causing puncture wounds to his arms.

He was taken to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.

A man, believed to be the dog's owner then refused to leave the premises - with another person and the dog inside the address too.

Armed officers and a police negotiator also attended, with discussions ongoing until 8.45am.

The man eventually left the premises and put the dog safely into a cage, to be taken into police kennels for assessments and to prevent further risk.

A man from the Forest of Dean has been arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Gloucestershire Police have thanked people living nearby for their patience while police activity was taking place this morning.
