Improved leisure and gym facilities for the Cotswolds
The District Council is investing £380,000 to make the improvements
Two council-owned leisure centres in the Cotswolds are having a number of improvements made, after £380,000 was invested by the authority.
Cirencester Leisure Centre and Bourton-on-the-Water Leisure Centre will see the improvements to their gym facilities made this autumn.
The gyms will both receive a full refurbishment with new flooring and equipment throughout. The layouts will reflect the latest trends, with more space given to functional and free weights areas, along with cardiovascular equipment.
In addition, the centres will be redecorated to create a new look and feel that is set to boost energy and be more welcoming for everyone.
Cllr Jenny Forde, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “I am so pleased we are making these improvements in our leisure centres. We are listening to what our residents say they need, to support them to be fit and healthy and the changes are in response to that.
“The new fitness equipment will also be more energy efficient, reducing the power demand from the leisure centre’s equipment, helping to tackle the climate crisis.”
Cirencester Leisure Centre’s gym refurbishment will take place from Sunday 18th September and is set to reopen to customers on Saturday 1st October. Bourton-on-the-Water Leisure Centre’s gym refurbishment will take place from Monday 3rd October and is set to reopen to customers on Saturday 15th October.
During these periods, the gyms will be out of use and members will be encouraged to visit alternative sites. Cirencester Leisure Centre will be offering a temporary gym for those members who wish to use it.
Jamie Nesbit, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “Cirencester Leisure Centre and Bourton Leisure Centre remain an integral part of the community and we’re excited to build on this by improving our current gym offering.
“We’re confident that our members will benefit greatly from this investment. Not only will it help to increase our prevalence as a hub for the local community, but also work to support our mission - for everybody to reach their target of 30 minutes’ exercise, five times a week.”
