Gloucestershire has been hit with widespread flooding following heavy rainfall yesterday (December 23) and overnight.

It's caused roads to be closed or partially closed across the county forcing drivers to abandon their cars.

Police are urging drivers to consider if their journeys are essential and to plan them properly to avoid areas hit by floods.

The Cross Keys roundabout at Hardwicke was flooded last night

During rush hour on Wednesday the A40 at Highnam and Over was shut both ways and two lanes were shut on the M5 near Michaelwood.

Tewkesbury was also affected by flooding with many areas around Gloucester as well, including Quedgeley, Coopers Edge, Abbeymead - and further south in Stroud.

The Met Office issued a weather warning from 6am on Wednesday (December 23) to 6am on today (December 24).

The Environment agency still has several flood warnings in place along the River Severn in Gloucestershire.
