Since the new year people have flocked to the gym to meet new years resolution goals.

Cheltenham gym, Energie Fitness, said they have seen a 20% increase in memberships this month. Owner Chris Barber explained why this time of year is so busy for the fitness industry.

He said: "It's a psychological fact that people like to have a timeline to work towards. They will often have the excessiveness of the Christmas holiday and then when it gets to January people want to start their new plans."

However, Chris Barber also said it is likely membership numbers will begin to fall again as people give up on their goals.

He said: "Statistically there will be drop off. It's human nature, they'll be people with all the right ideas but not the implementation that goes with it."

Chris Barber gave some tips on how to stay motivated.

He said: "Set goals, use personal trainers, and find a gym that will provide support for new members."
