Road closures are in place in Stroud and trains have been stopped as police respond to a welfare incident.

Officers received a report of a man on the viaduct at Merrywalks at around half past one this morning.

Negotiators attempted to resolve the situation - the A46 was shut both ways.

British Transport Police took over ownership of the incident from Gloucestershire Police.

At around 1pm, the man was safely detained and taken to a place of safety.

All trains have been temporarily stopped to and from Stroud. Travellers are being urged to find alternative routes.
