Police launch Operation Comet to increase police presence in Gloucester tonight
They'll be targeting drug dealing as well as ensuring the safety of vulnerable people.
Increased police patrols will be in place in Gloucester for a second evening in a row later.
Police have launched Operation Comet to monitor any potential trouble in the local night-time economy.
As well as targeting people dealing in drugs, officers will be helping ensure the safety and welfare of anyone finding themselves in a vulnerable position.
There will be extra police officers patrolling the city centre and the Docks from 7pm this evening. They will also have PD Chase with them this evening - he's a police dog who's trained in sniffing out drugs and helping deal with incidents.
Superintendent Rob Lawton said: “As part of Operation Comet, our officers will be targeting criminal activity in the night-time economy, helping to protect people as they enjoy a well-deserved night out."
“It’s well-known that alcohol mixed with drugs, or the use of drugs alone, can cause people to act in a way they wouldn’t normally. This can often lead to violent incidents and anti-social behaviour."
“Everyone has the right to have fun in a safe environment and we will be doing everything we can to ensure that is the case.”
