Police have arrested a man after a number of violent incidents took place in Gloucester in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Officers were called just before 3am after two attempted break-ins at properties on Garnell Road.

At one address, a man threatened one of the occupants before assaulting another, and demanding they hand over money.

Earlier, at around 1am, police were stopped by a woman who told them that a man in a balaclava had robbed her and a friend after they had drawn money out at an ATM on Painswick Road.

Police believe the incidents are linked and that the suspect had also been trying to enter properties in the Matson, Abbeymead and Abbeydale areas.

A 38-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault. He remains in police custody.
