Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue "must continue to improve" says report
The department has been in special measures since last July
In a report by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICRS), Gloucestershire's department was praised for improvements made to its work place culture.
Last July, the service was rated "inadequate" after concerns about its working environment.
Having re-visited Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue in November, HMICRS acknowledged they've improved the way they look after people.
The report noted that they'd achieved this by growing their understanding of the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
They were praised for increasing visibility and approachability of their leaders and have taken steps to ensure easier access to wellbeing support.
Mark Preece is the Chief Fire Officer for Gloucestershire fire and rescue, he said “I am pleased to see our progress has been reflected within the most recent report from HMICFRS.
“Our culture is improving and there is a growing understanding across all areas of the services how important equality diversity and inclusion is.
“I am proud of all the hard work and dedication shown by colleagues and what we have achieve as a fire and rescue service.
“We now need to build on this momentum to ensure that GFRS is a positive and welcoming place to work and that we have the right culture, values and actively welcome and celebrate diversity in all its forms.”
A further inspection will take place later this month.
