A national 4 week firearm amnesty for owners of Turkish manufactured top-venting blank firers (TVBF) starts today.

The blank firers which may have been purchased lawfully have now been made illegal under the Firearms Act 1968.

It’s after they were found to be easily adaptable into working firearms.

Those who surrender the weapons between the 3rd and 28th of February will not be criminally prosecuted.

After this period anyone who is found to be in possession of a TVBF could face imprisonment.

Over 10,000 TVBFs are predicted to be in circulation in the UK and have been used in several serious criminal incidents.

The models people are being asked to hand over are top-venting blank firers manufactured by either BLOW, CEONIC, EKOL or RETAY.

Inspector Alec Linton from Gloucestershire Police said “they’ve been analysed and its been decided that because they’re quite easy to make into a viable firearm that actually they are illegal, they should not be in this country.”
