A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place this morning (18/1) across parts of the South West. Parts of Gloucestershire will see some light snow after a sharp dip in temperatures last night.

Motorists are being urged to take extra caution on the roads which are likely to be icy this morning. The AA is reminding people vehicle reaction times will be slower than normal in wet and icy conditions.

Vincent Crane, from the AA South West, said: "Your reaction time may be the same but your vehicle's reaction time, including braking and steering, may be hampered by the cold and wet weather."

The Met Office have a similar warning to drivers.

Honor Criswick, from the Met Office, said: "If you're travelling drive a bit slower than usual in case there are any roads that haven't been treated.

"Even outside of the warning areas there is potential for ice. But in the warning areas we could see quite a few snow showers falling onto sub-zero surfaces, so not only will there be snow but ice as well."

A yellow warning for wind is also in place for Sunday (21/1). The Met Office said this could cause travel delays, power cuts, and damage to buildings.

The recent cold spell has been caused by arctic winds travelling down to the UK.
