A teenager from Gloucestershire has spent 300 hours crocheting a blanket to raise money for an eating disorder charity.

18-year-old Darcey wanted to give back to the charity Beat after they helped her and her family while she was being treated and recovering.

She took part in the challenege set by the charity which asked people to create 125 things of their choice - which represents the 1.25 million people suffering with an eating disorder in the UK.

"Their helplines and motivational resources and everything they offer are all things which have really helped me", says Darcey.

"Their helpline is something which I used at the beginning when I was struggling and helped me find the motivation to seek a diagnosis and treatment.

"My family also used a lot of the resources they offered as well. They really helped me and I know they can really help a lot of other people as well."

During her time visitng the hospital for weekly sessions, Darcey, who already had a passion for anything creative, learned how to crochet to help keep her mind and hands busy.

The blanket consists of 125 individually crocheted granny squares which include sensory aspects to help others with anxiety.

They also exhbit positive affirmations like "take a leap", "be afraid and do it anyway" and "eat it to beat it".

The blanket will be donated to the hospital where she underwent treatment to help other patients who are still in recovery.

Darcey has also raised over £330 so far which will be donated to Beat to help fund their helpline over the Christmas period.
