The Police and Crime Commissioner has given £50,000 to fund a new project which will see more young people educated about the dangers of drawing a knife.

Although statistically Gloucestershire has less knife related incidents than the national average, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Chris Nelson, says educating youngsters remains a priority.

Chris Nelson, said: "Too many young people carry knives as they think it is safer for them, but it is actually more dangerous for a child to carry a knife.

"Every crime that involved knives is dreadful and people are often hurt, so even though we are statically below the national average we can't ignore it."

The money will go towards the life-size safety village in the fire and rescue service's skillzone facility to teach young people and adults how to stay safe. The budget will also fund the creation of a film about how so-called county lines gangs target vulnerable youngsters.
