Gloucestershire Extinction Rebellion activists join protests in London
A fortnight of demonstrations are taking place in the capital
Extinction Rebellion activists from Gloucestershire have joined protests taking place in London.
The 'Impossible Rebellion' demonstrations are set to take place for a fortnight in the capital.
Protests started on Monday (August 22) to demand the Government to stop all investment if fossil fuels immediately.
On Monday, eight people were arrested as the environmental activists blocked roads.
We've spoken to Simon, an XR activist from Gloucestershire who is there:
"I've understood the science on climate change since 1978.
"That's four decades of in-action and now we're in the last decade in which we can overt catastrophe.
"So I plan to be counted among the number who are demanding change".
Ali Rose is member of Extinction Rebellion Forest of Dean who is also taking part in the protests.
"I think for many people like myself, it's despair that has taken people to the streets of London for these demonstrations", she says.
"The rebellion is not trying to bring down a Government, it's simply trying to create change within Government.
"In the meeting of other people, just ordinary people brings a great sense of solidarity.
"I think the impotence that one can feel when you're on your own in your ordinary life begins to fade away and you get a sense that together if we act now we can address this emergency."
