A bizarre annual tradition took place in Brockworth today (27/5) which saw competitors from all over the world tumble down Cooper's Hill chasing a roll of Double Gloucester cheese.

The rules are simple- the cheese is thrown down the hill reaching speeds of up to 70mph. Competitors must get to the bottom of the hill as fast as they can and the first person over the finish line wins.

Tom Kopke, from Munich, Germany, was the winner of the first men's race.

He said: "I'm buzzing, it's a great day and it's been a lot of fun. When you get down to the bottom adrenaline just takes over.

"It's my first time running this hill, I've never done it before and I haven't practiced!"

The winner of the second men's race, Dylan Twist, had travelled from Perth, Australia to win the competition.

Speaking after the race, he said: "It was great fun, I'm glad I came and did it. I'm glad I didn't break my neck for my mum. I'm just pleased to have done it. It's a slight surprise but I told my friends at home I'd win."

Meanwhile in the women's race, 2022 champion Abby Lampe took back her title. Abby also travelled far for the competition- all the way from North Carolina, USA.

She said: "I'm shocked and surprised but I'm glad I got down the hill. It felt like a lot of tumbling and I had no idea how well I was going to do."

The final race of the day saw Brockworth local, Josh Shepherd win. It was the second time he had won the race, the last time being in 2014.
