Two lucky Gloucester Rugby fans have been surprised by their Cherry and Whites heroes as part of the club's Squad of Thousand campaign.

The project was launched at the end of last year to help unite fans with the club and to support them despite the lack of live games.

As part of the campaign Gloucester Rugby surprised some fans with virtual meets with their top players.

First up was Sam Galliers, a 23-year-old volunteer at the Gloucester Rugby Foundation.

Previously diagnosed with Scoliosis, a heart condition and Kabuki syndrome, Sam has a surprise call from the one and only Henry Trinder.

Sam Galliers said:

"People from college got in touch with me about wanting to make a story about my volunteering.

"Little did I know that Henry was going to be on the other end of the phone.

"I was speechless and totally surprised but it was amazing".

Sam wasted no time in picking his brains about everything from life in lockdown to the greatest players he’s shared a pitch with.

Gloucester Rugby also surprised David Price – potentially Gloucester Rugby’s oldest fan.

David turned 96 years old last week and has been determined to walk back to his seat in the stands to watch another live game.

First visiting Kingsholm at the age of 17 back in 1942, David has seen his fair share of rugby action over the past 79 years.

Whilst there has been lots of change for the club over the past 70 years, one that that has remained the same is his passion for the cherry and whites – with David rarely missing a game during this time.

To show support and appreciation for his continued dedication to the club, Gloucester Rugby organised a surprise Happy Birthday video for David featuring messages from fan favourites Alex Brown, Louis Rees-Zammit and Chris Harris.
