Police officer to appear in court charged with assault

A police officer with Gloucestershire Police is due in court today charged with common assault by beating.

Neil Lorimer, aged 49, is charged after it was alleged that he assaulted a woman in Shrewsbury on 14 November 2021.

Due to the nature of the allegations, the investigation into the incident was carried out by the nearby West Mercia Police

Lorimer was charged in May 2022.

He will appear before Worcester Magistrates Court this morning. He is currently suspended from duty.
