The victim of a murder in Gloucester over the weekend has been named by police as Kidane Gebrehiwot.

The man, in his 50s, and from Gloucester, died on Sunday (August 6) from his injuries on Arthur Street shortly after 1.05am.

Paramedics and police were called to the scene following reports a man had been stabbed, but he died from his injuries.

Officers continue to question a man who was arrested following the incident and are appealing for the public's help for information.

They say they want to hear from anyone who saw a man wearing a distinctive jacket on Saturday night into Sunday morning in the city centre, Eastgate Street, Arthur Street and/or Gloucester Park areas.

They add the man is described as being black, about 5ft 6ins tall (167 cm) and was wearing a zip up top which had a red body and long white sleeves.

The Major Crime Investigation Team say they would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area and had their dashcam recording between 12.30am and 1.30am on Sunday morning.

The victim was treated by members of the public, police and paramedics and later died in hospital from his injuries.

A man arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody after a Judge granted a warrant of further detention earlier today, Wednesday 9 August.

An additional 36 hours of detention was authorised by a Judge at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court expiring tomorrow evening, Thursday 10 August.

Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to submit information online by completing the following form and quoting incident 19 of 6 August on their website.

Alternatively you can report information anonymously through the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website.
